La Bouche, Olivier (French) (1716-1721)

Lafitte, Jean (American) (c.1780 - c.1826) - smuggler, privateer, pirate, and slaver.   He received letters of marque from Cartagena (which was at war with Spain at the time).  He Led the various Baratarian pirates that worked out of Grand Terre; governor Claiborne had him declared a pirate, but he earned a pardon by helping to defend New Orleans from British attack during the War of 1812

Lafitte, Pierre (American) (c.1780 - ) - brother to Jean, above, again more of a smuggler than pirate

Lamley, Robert (English) (c.1696) - age 12, apprenticed to ship's cook, Abeel Owen, with William Kidd

Lem�me (c.1800) - corsair, attacked English shipping from Ile de France

Leroi (c.1800) - corsair, preyed on English shipping in the West Indies

Leveille (c.1800) - operating out of Dunkirk, preyed on English shipping

Loffe, Gabriel (c.1699) - sailed with William Kidd

Low, Edward (English) (c.1723) portrait.gif (487 bytes) skullxbones-anim.gif (3182 bytes) - a reputation as one of the cruelest of pirates, said to have an orphaned son in Boston

Lowther, George (English) (c.1721) portrait.gif (487 bytes)

de Lussan, Raveneau (c.1683) - returned from Caribbean with 30,000 pieces of eight
