Read, William (English) (c.1700) - commanded a ship that picked up Thomas White, stranded with natives on Madagascar

Ringnose, Basil (1653-1686) - surgeon, sailed with Bartholomew Sharp in 1680-1682, made maps of Pacific coast of South America.

Rivero Pardal, Manoel (Portuguese) (c.1669) - corsair working for Spain, sailed from Cartagena with letter of marque

Roberts, Bartholomew (John) [Black Bart] (Welsh) (1682-1722) portrait.gif (487 bytes) skullxbones-anim.gif (3182 bytes) skullxbones-anim.gif (3182 bytes)- captured as many as 400 ships, possibly the inspiration for the Dread Pirate Roberts from Princess Bride fame

Rodrigo, Peter (c.1675) - raided French settlements in Canada

Rogers, Woodes (English) (b. 1679?-d. July 16, 1732, Nassau, Bahamas) - made governor of New Providence in Bahamas.

Roper, Richard (c.1699) - sailed with William Kidd, apprehended by Captain Mathew Lowth with �400
